Djulin (Goanna)

I have chosen to paint these two Djulin as they represent strength, diversity in survival not only for themselves but other species that rely on then to keep other species of animals from over populating an area and also by them being a food source themselves for other animals including Human’s and the Wadawurrung People.
This painting is a Mother and son collaboration in passing on the stories of mob. The back ground was painted by my son Mazin age 8 and I his mother Lynette painted the details.
Over the red background in ochre colour and brown is digging sticks and gathering circles as the women would dig out the Djulin in hunting and gathering time and bring to share for eating together with mob.
On the ochre and black quarter gathering circle showing is representing coming together and providing balance to the land and keeping the land healthy.
The white lines and dots on the red background are representing travel and lifes journey to stay in balance and respect the land. Only to take was is needed in specific seasons to keep and maintain balance to keep the country healthy.
