Fiona Burns

I am a strong proud woman from Ulupna Clan of Yorta Yorta and Wiradjuri tribes.

My Great Great Grandmother, Queen Yamuk, (meaning mother or Aunt, AKA Teresa Clements nee Middleton was Yorta Yorta Tribe.

My Great Great Grandfather, William Clements was Wiradjuri tribe.

My Great Grandmother, Margaret Tucker was stolen generation, survivor, actress, singer and a strong activist.

I am here because of their strength and their survival.

I do craft and weaving to help my puzzled head and busy mind.  These help me stay grounded.  Weaving helps me with boredom and it is a stress release.  Using natural materials (reed) is extremely therapeutic for me.

Aunty Vicki Cousens, a strong cultural Keeray Woorroong, Gunditjmara woman, taught me to weave at Camp Kangaroobie in 2017 and I am forever grateful for this learning.

I have woven many items, including a large eel net.  It took me 6 months to complete, and I used materials from the Indigenous garden at BADAC.  I am a culturally proud Indigenous Woman, living in Ballarat with my family, who I share my knowledge with.
