This coolamon slowly revealed itself through patient stitches and raffia woven gently by hand, guided by spirit, story, and the grounding presence of Country. Adorned with possum skin, it carries a feeling of nurture, comfort, and protection, reflecting the traditional purpose of coolamons as vessels used to carry food, water, stories, and babies. As the piece took shape, it began to hold the soft yet strong energy of care and connection, reminding me that some creations are made not only with our hands, but alongside our Ancestors and the stories they continue to whisper through us. Created by a proud First Nations woman, this work honours the strength of cultural knowledge passed through generations while carrying those stories forward for the future. taken
